52 Letters Week 23

You were my first Art History professor.

I actually studied more under you than any other...

...I always admired you,

your enthusiasm

and passion for life

and learning.

I tell my friends about you...

"My first Art History professor

has the most eclectic hat collection ever;

there were days when she would

wear roller blades to class!"

You enjoy life so openly...

so freely--

I have ALWAYS admired that about you.

I envy you.

How do you do it?

Find joy all the time,

even when life if difficult

and often times monotonous.

Or is it just my perception?

I don't think so.

I want to find joy in every day...

live my life fully

and unapologetically.

...specific lessons you taught

that have resonated--

that I still think about...

A seminar class...

Each week...a different topic to research

The following week...teach the whole class about it.

"Moreau as a Teacher"

This subject created one of my core teaching principles:

to facilitate the growth and development of

my students' individual voices;

to encourage them to paint UNLIKE me,

and as themselves.

I saw the Matisse exhibit,

and thought of Moreau

and you.
